October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Linked Investigations has written at length about domestic abuse, including addressing growing concerns involving Covid-19. As such, we understand the importance of advocating for victims of domestic violence and the importance of increased education and intervention.
Domestic violence affects millions of people regardless of age and gender. It also takes many forms and there is no typical victim. While most people think of physical abuse, domestic violence comes in many forms including physical, sexual, and psychological/emotional abuse. It varies in frequency and severity, but it is preventable and can be addressed.
We encourage you to seek assistance as soon as possible if you need help. In the event of an immediate emergency, like a life-threatening situation, call 911. If you are dealing with a known abuser or don’t have enough evidence to go to the authorities, we encourage you to call or chat with representatives at the National Domestic Violence Hotline. The hotline is free and confidential. The National Resource Center on Domestic Violence has additional safety tips and contacts should you need them.
Hiring a licensed, experienced private investigator can be especially helpful in situations related to domestic violence. A private investigator can help with serving restraining orders as well as gathering evidence through surveillance to be provided in court. An investigator also can perform background checks—particularly criminal background checks—to see if an individual may be prone to violence or have anything in their background that could raise red flags in your relationship.
We understand that the number one goal of the abuser is to maintain control over the victim and the situation, and we know that your safety is top priority. As private investigators, we have seen many clients “freeze up” and continue to live in fear of repercussions if they try to do something to protect themselves or break the cycle of violence. This can have long-term negative effects. When you move forward with a plan and support from an experienced professional, it can be a little easier to get help.
If you or someone you know is the victim of domestic violence, we encourage you to take a moment to consider reaching out to talk to a licensed private investigator. Linked Investigations offers free, private, confidential consultations. We have been providing investigative services, including locating people, background checks, asset searches, pre-litigation investigations, surveillance, service of legal documents in the United States since 1982.
